Matthew Ahlberg, LCSW
The pressures of being an athlete—managing performance expectations, competition, academics, relationships, and overall well-being—can feel overwhelming. As a former collegiate athlete, I understand firsthand the mental and emotional demands that come with competitive sport. This lived experience is what drives my passion for working with Flourish to Better Health.
In our work together, we will focus on the mental and emotional factors that influence performance, confidence, focus, and consistency. Using a collaborative and individualized approach, I help athletes across all ages identify and address unhelpful thought patterns, emotional barriers, and stress responses that may be interfering with their ability to perform at their best.
I am Level 3 trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy through the Internal Family Systems Institute, am trained in EMDR, and certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I also integrate CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing to support mental skills such as emotional regulation, resilience, and performance mindset.
Mental health plays a critical role in athletic performance, resilience, and overall well-being. Together, we will work to strengthen the psychological skills and patterns so you can care for your mental health with the same intention as your physical training. I look forward to supporting you in achieving your goals both in sport and beyond.
